Mir Musharraf Hossain (November 13, 1847 – December 19, 1911) was a Bengali novelist, dramatist and essayist. His full name is Syed Mir Musharraf Hossain. He is one of the leading prose poets of Bengali language and a pioneer of Bengali Muslim literature. His most popular literary work is Vishad Sindhu, which chronicles the battle of Karbala. He was born in Lahinipara village of Champra union of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district in then British India (now Bangladesh). His ancestral home is Padmadi village of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district. His educational life was spent first in Kushtia, then in Padmadi village of Baliakandi upazila of present Rajbari and finally in various schools in Krishnanagar. Most of his life was spent working at the Nawab's estate in Faridpur. He lived in Calcutta for some time.
